The Refundable Debenture of $30,000 is payable on offer of a place if the child starts school in Reception to Year 5. If child(ren) start School in Pre-Nursery or Nursery, the Refundable Debenture is due on the first day of Summer term in Nursery to reserve a place in Reception.
(There is a transitional arrangement for the child(ren) enrolled before the school year 2009/10.
The arrangement for paying the Refundable Debenture will be shown on the invoice each term.)
HLYIS provides a through-train education Nursery to Year 13. Please see ICHK (International College Hong Kong) information sheet for secondary fees.
Payment of Fees
- Make payments by cheque to Hong Lok Yuen International School Association Limited. The payment of school fees in cash is not advised.

- Invoices are mailed to the address parents give on the application form. It is important to keep us informed of any address changes. HLYISA will continue to forward all mail to the location indicated on the application form until you have notified us otherwise.
- Invoices will be sent out around one month before the deadline. Deadline is set on the first day of the term.
- Invoices are payable upon receipt. For payments that are outstanding for more than 15 days after the deadline, a late payment fee of 3% of the outstanding amount will be charged.
- The school reserves the right to withdraw the student from school if the fees are not paid two months after the deadline (the first day of each term). The student cannot be reinstated until all fees are paid and providing a school space is available. The family shall repay the Reservation Charge for the re-enrolment.
- If a family does not pay the fees on time for more than three times consecutively, the school will reserve the right to insist the family pay the fees by termly direct debt.
School Fees
- Fees are non-refundable.
- Fees are invoiced on a termly basis and are payable by the date marked on the invoice.
- Fees may be pro-rated according to date of starting school.
- No reduction in school fees will be made for any absence.
- Parents with financial difficulty in payment of fees should contact the Principal in confidence.
Association Charges
Parents shall become members of HLYISA at the time of registration of their child(ren).
- The Application charge is to be submitted with the application form.
The Charge is for the interview and assessment.
- The Reservation charge is payable on offer of a place.
Enrolment becomes final only after the school has received the Reservation Charge.
The fee is not refundable if the family decides at a later date not to enrol the student.
- The Debenture encourages due notice of withdrawal and therefore enables the school to
manage staffing effectively.
- To obtain a refund of the Refundable Debenture, parents are obliged to give Due Notice of Withdrawal in writing and pay school fees for at least one term before withdrawing a child from the school.
- Parents may request the option of replacing the Refundable Debenture with a pre-payment towards the final term’s fees.
- In Y6, the parent may request the Refundable Debenture to be transferred to ICHK as part payment of the ICHK capital debenture to secure a place.
- The Capital Levy Charge was established by HLYISA to accrue funds for long term development, such as improvement to grounds and premises, whilst at the same time, regulating fee increases through fluctuating school enrolment. It must be paid annually at the same time as the initial term’s fee unless a student starts in the Summer Term when 30% of the Capital Levy is payable. The Capital Levy is strictly non-refundable.
- No capital levy fee is payable for children in Pre-Nursery or Nursery.
Other Information
- Monthly payments can be made in exceptional circumstances only and on application to the Principal. A surcharge may be applied.
- Reduction (10% discount) is available on Reservation Fee and School Fee for 3rd child if all educated at HLYIS (on application to the Principal).
- The school supplies all stationery and textbooks requirements. Exceptions are:
- Occasional software to accompany some Chinese textbooks.
- Excursion and camps.
- Recorder / bamboo flute for specific year group.
- School Uniform and accessories.
- School bus charges (pay directly to the company).
- Learning Support Charges for individual child if deemed necessary
- EAL Intensive charge is $2,000 per month
- Special Need Support Assistant is $125 per hour
Due Notice of Withdrawal
To ensure Refundable Debenture can be refunded, receipt of a written notice of a parentî–¸ intention to withdraw a child is required addressed to the Business Manager as follows:

Notice must be received at the latest on the first day of that term. |

Leaving during mid-term in Spring and Summer term.
Notice must be received by the first day of the previous term. |
