Our school caters for both expatriates from all over the world and English speaking local Chinese students from 3-11 years to prepare them for international secondary education anywhere in the world. Whilst English is the medium of instruction, we have a long tradition of teaching Chinese both as a first and second language.
To provide a firm foundation in the basic subjects, an inquiry student centred approach is adopted in teaching and learning (IB Primary Years Curriculum) to ensure that all students learn to take responsibility for their own learning, learn how to learn and think, in preparation for future education and life.
We also believe that in the primary years it is important that students have a very sound grounding in all aspects of English and Mathematics. We have written our own curriculum in these core areas, based on the UK Literacy and Numeracy Strategy, as well as the IBPYP scope and sequences, ensuring a solid foundation for our students in English and Mathematics learning and teaching.
Physical Education, Music and Chinese is high profile at our school whilst we also place emphasis on the Arts and Performance. We celebrate our multi-cultural environment and value diversity. Encouraging students to be internationally minded is both part of our taught curriculum and part of general school life.
A particular emphasis is placed on the individual with small class sizes which enables teachers to know each child and their specific needs, and to cater for their differences.
We have a Learning Support Programme to cater for students with special needs and those with English as an Additional Language . We also provide for our students who are gifted and talented. We place high priority on enabling students to be confident, well mannered, socially caring and personally aware. An extensive extra-curricular programme of sporting and other after school activities is provided at school to enrich and broaden student’s learning.
